Date:
December 1, 2024
Location:
Butibamba Park
The Drang band of drums provided the opening sounds of the Very Merry Christmas Fair in the Butibamba park in La Cala de Mijas. The many craft stalls were set up ready for visitors, along with many Lions stalls offering an early celebration of the festive season. The annual event was compared by John Sharples who introduced the Lions President Karen Blair and Ayuntamiento Councillor for the foreigner’s department, Mario Bravo, to formally open the event. The Lions also thanked Katja and Laura from the town hall for their help in the providing the stage and the tables and chairs. Visitors to the fair enjoyed the stalls and the entertainment throughout the day. Singer Laura Ellen opened the entertainment with a selection of Christmas tunes and was followed by the Sur pipes and drum and Scottish dancers. Then on stage was the very energetic and nimble Rhythmic Children’s Gymnastic School who demonstrated their amazing twists and turns into unbelievable moves. Sounds changed to the authentic Spanish sounds and movement of the Grupo Flamenco con Victor Rojas. The entertainment came to its end with Maxi, the mini Elvis, who despite having a plaster cast on his broken leg, gave the audience a reason to get up and dance. The stalls were busy throughout the day and the children present were enjoying their rides on the tuk tuk, driven by Santa’s elves and the presents they all received from Santa. The event was a great success and the funds raised will be used by the Lions to further support those in need throughout the area. The event raised nearly 4000€ which will be used by the Lions in their aim to serve the community and help those in need.
