Summer Fair & Pre-Loved Fashion Show

    Date:
    June 2, 2024
    Location:
    Butibamba Park
The sun was shining, the park was filled with stalls and all was ready for the people to arrive. They came and soon Butibamba Park was filled with people of all ages anticipating browsing through the stalls, trusting their luck with tickets for the splendid array of raffle prizes and selecting a cake from the many different home baked masterpieces. The event was opened by the Drang band assisted by four Lions, the current President Brenda, Vice President Karen, Past President Graham and newly inaugurated Lions Sue. The front line of the Lions drummers were changed and their places were taken by Councillor Mario Bravo, head of the foreigners department plus Katja from the town hall. After his performance on the drums Mario then gave a welcoming speech, responded to by Lions President Brenda. The fair was open and the stalls were soon busy with people purchasing their goods. John Sharples, an honorary Lion, was the compare for the day and he soon was called on to introduce the Pre-Loved Fashion Show. The fantastic outfits were modelled by volunteers that work in the Lions Charity Shops in Calle Torremolinos. All the outfits could be purchased after the fashion show and soon the charity stall in the park was bustling with people buying the outfits that had just been modelled. The stalls round the periphery of the park covered items made of wood, stone, jewellery, clothes, arts and crafts and even insurance and funeral plans. The Lions diabetic stall was ever present and was providing testing for diabetics and advise for those that have diabetes. Entertainment throughout the day consisted of a fine collection of songs from Tony Whitehouse, the Costasol singers and the excellent Little Elvis, 12 year old Maxi. The event raised 4587 euros, which will swell the Lions funds and enable us to continue supporting those in need.
