La Cala de Mijas Lions Celebrate New President with an ABBA Night to Remember
It was a night of music, dancing, glamour and plenty of fun as the La Cala de Mijas Lions Club celebrated the arrival of its new incoming President, Sandie Tavendale, with a fantastic evening at Miraflores Golf Club.
The theme for the evening was ABBA, and Lions members and their guests certainly embraced the occasion, dressing up for a night of 1970s-inspired glamour.
There was plenty of singing along, dancing and laughter as the tribute band performed ABBA favourites, creating a wonderful atmosphere and giving everyone a night to remember.
The team at Miraflores Golf Club also pulled out all the stops, providing a delicious meal and excellent service throughout the evening. Their contribution helped make the celebration a great success.
Of course, it wasn’t all about having fun! A raffle and generous donations from those attending helped boost the evening’s fundraising total to around €3,000.
The money raised will go towards the La Cala de Mijas Lions Club’s ongoing work supporting local people, community projects and good causes in the area.
It was a fitting way to welcome Sandie Tavendale into her new role and a wonderful example of how the Lions combine friendship, fun and fundraising to make a positive difference in the local community.
Congratulations to Sandie — and thank you to everyone who helped make this memorable ABBA night such a success!

La Cala de Mijas Lions Summer Fair & Fashion Show Raises €2,500 for Local Charities
Held on Sunday, 31 May at Butibamba Park, this event raised a creditable €2,500 for Lions charitable projects and community initiatives. Despite exceptionally hot weather and several competing events taking place across La Cala on the same day, the fair attracted a steady stream of visitors who came together to enjoy a wonderful day of shopping, entertainment, fashion, and family fun.
Organised in collaboration with the Mijas Departamento de Extranjeros, the event featured more than 20 artisan stalls offering a wide variety of unique handcrafted gifts, crafts, and bespoke products.

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, the Phoenix Singers entertained guests with a lively set of popular songs, while children enjoyed a range of free activities including craft tables, and family entertainment.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the outcome of this year’s Summer Fair and Fashion Show,” said Sandra Tavendale, the club’s Social Secretary, ” We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers, stallholders, performers, sponsors, and everyone who attended and supported the event.”
